Retirement

We had enjoyed many holidays on Mallorca and were in the process of making the decision to move from England to a better climate, where we could lead more of an outdoor life in a relaxed environment. We enjoy walking, gardening and have a mad Labrador called Paddy, who we wanted to bring with us.

We were introduced to Shortcuts through a friend who thought they could help us with our decision and offer information regarding island life, practicalities and where we should consider locating. We did not speak Spanish and were apprehensive about buying a house in a different country when we’d never done anything like this before.

Talking extensively with Andy and Jan at Shortcuts was enlightening and extremely helpful. It served to crystallise our thinking in terms of the lifestyle we wanted to achieve in Mallorca and what our needs really were. We had first harboured romantic ideas of a finca with lots of land in the country, but talking this through we realised this was not ideal for our situation and saved us a potential costly mistake.

They walked us through the whole buying process and later recommended lawyers and various other professionals to consider using when we found the house that met our dreams.

Shortcuts saved us an enormous amount of time and energy by showing us areas of the island we should explore that might suit our tastes. We now live within ten minutes walking distance of a picturesque village with many facilities and restaurants, look out to the mountains, and yet we can be in the centre of Palma within fifteen minutes.

It totally suits our lifestyle. We took a very important shortcut that has paid many dividends and we may well have missed our lovely village had we not met Shortcuts. The savings on our hotel bill alone, had we done it all ourselves, more than covered the registration fee – which was refunded in the end anyway!
